Aaron "Wayne"
Thompson
May 22, 1961 – March 21, 2025
Aaron Wayne "Wayne" Thompson, 63, passed away at his home on March 21, 2025, in Edgewood, Texas. Born on May 22, 1961, in Odessa, Texas, Wayne moved to Edgewood at the age of 11 and quickly became a part of the community he would call home for most of his life.
A proud graduate of Edgewood High School's Class of 1980, Wayne was an athlete who played football and ran track throughout his school years. After high school, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He joined the esteemed 82nd Airborne Division and was stationed in Hawaii. During his service, he distinguished himself as a sharpshooter and rifle expert. He earned his Sergeant's Stripes and became a Crew Chief responsible for repairing Cobra helicopters. Additionally, he obtained his commercial driver's license and hauled explosives as part of his military duties.
Following his military service, Wayne returned to Edgewood and married Deborah Smith Thompson in 1988. Their marriage spanned 37 years, filled with love, family gatherings, and shared joys. Together they raised their daughter Amber Thompson Quillin.
Wayne built a career that reflected both his strong work ethic and passion for driving. He owned his own trucking company for several years before transitioning to a long-term role with the United States Postal Service as a truck driver for two decades. Retirement did not slow him down—just two weeks after leaving the USPS, he began working for South East Carriers out of Tennessee. He continued driving for five more years until illness forced him to step away from the road.
A man deeply devoted to family, Wayne found happiness in spending time with loved ones. Whether watching football or hosting family cookouts where conversations flowed around the grill, he cherished every moment shared with those closest to him. His granddaughters Chloe "Sugar Puddin" Quillin and Callie "Sugar Cookie" Quillin brought him immense joy.
Wayne is survived by his wife Deborah Smith Thompson; daughter Amber Thompson Quillin and her husband Rickie; granddaughters Chloe and Callie Quillin; brothers Richard Thompson of Mabank and Charles Thompson of Edgewood; sisters Pam Thompson Materne and her husband Mike of Malakoff and Helen Thompson of Edgewood; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom he loved dearly. His beloved Maltipoo "Maggie May" also held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents C.E. (Cotton) Thompson and Betty Boggs Thompson; brothers Joel and Steve Thompson; nephew Jerry Wayne Thompson; stepmother Olean Thompson; and stepbrother Mike Hines.
Wayne's faith was an important part of his life as he followed the Baptist faith.
Family and friends are invited to honor Wayne's life at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point, Texas. A visitation will be held on March 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will take place at Creagleville Cemetery in Grand Saline at 12:30 PM.
Wayne will be remembered as a generous and passionate man who dedicated himself to family, hard work, and service to others. His memory will live on through those who knew him best.
