Born in Hanceville, AL on May 25, 1939
Departed on Apr. 13, 2015 and resided in Wills Point, TX.
Memorial service for Alvin Ray "Sonny" Helms, 75, of Wills Point is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Bro. Jimmy Sheppard officiating. Interment will be at Bright Star Cemetery north of Wills Point.
He passed away Monday night, April 13, 2015.
Alvin was born May 25, 1939 in Hanceville, Alabama, the son of Alvin Axtress Helms and Elsie Mae Lee Helms. He was raised in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Phillips High School. Sonny was a truck driver for Hadley Auto Transport in Mesquite for twenty years, retiring in 2000. He lived in Mesquite prior to moving to Wills Point in 1994. Sonny enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing and spending time with Annie Mae. He attended Chapel of the Lake.
Preceded in death by his parents, Alvin & Elsie Helms and two sisters, Rilla Mae Greer and Melva Lou Chandler.
Sonny is survived by his girlfriend, Anna Mae Aycock, of Wills Point; three sons, Alan Helms & wife, Denise, of Birmingham, Alabama, Scott Helms, of Dallas and Michael Helms & wife, Cheryl, of Grapevine; daughter, Suzzanne Helms Horak & husband, Mark, of Fate and three grandchildren, Ashley Horak Darga, Alex Horak and Sarah DeBaro.
