Obituary

Anna Lois Granberry Wilbourn was born May 19, 1934, in Winona, Texas, to George and Viola Granberry. She was one of 11 children and the youngest of 6 sisters. She passed away in Canton, Texas on April 20, 2022, at the age of 87.

Shortly after graduating from Winona High School in 1951, Anna married Jimmie Wilbourn. They were married for 66 years. After raising 5 children Anna began a career in nursing. She received her LVN license passing her state board exam by scoring in the top 10% in the state of Texas. She spent most of her career working at Kaufman Presbyterian Hospital earning a reputation as someone who deeply cared for her patients. After her retirement she often commented how much she missed being a nurse.

Anna truly loved family. She treasured the times when children and grandchildren could be together. For her there was nothing better than a trip to be with family in Winona or a chance to gather as many family members as possible in her home in Wills Point. She was a proud mom and grandmother and would seize every opportunity to brag about one of her kids or grandchildren. Anna had a heart for anyone who was hurting and a natural affection for the underdog. Her grandchildren knew they come to Granny with any problem and that she would listen without judgement. Many family members and friends in the community found themselves over the years unloading their burdens at her kitchen table.

Anna had a lifelong love of reading. She often recounted being rescued by her high school principal from a class she was struggling in and being asked instead to work in the school library. For many seasons of her life, she consumed a novel a week. Consequently, she possessed a rich vocabulary and a love for language. In her later years she insisted that her books would continue to be used.  Portions of her personal library were donated to schools and public libraries.  She deeply valued education and was so proud when anyone in the family furthered their education.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jimmie; her daughter Gwen, granddaughter Michelle, her daughter-in-law Nanda, and eight siblings.

She is survived by sons Jason Wilbourn and wife Darla of Wills Point, Kevin Wilbourn and wife Keenah of Hallsville, Tx, Chris Wilbourn of Wills Point, and Joey Wilbourn of Brownwood and 17  Grandchildren, and  23 Great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild Miylo Ray Anthony. Brothers Carl Granberry and wife Lura of Winona, Texas and Doug Granberry and wife Barbara of Fort Worth, and numerous nieces and nephews.
