Betty "Janie"
Jane Grogan
May 29, 1945 – September 6, 2025
Betty Jane "Janie" Grogan, 80, of Wills Point, Texas, passed away on September 6, 2025, in Wills Point.
Born on May 29, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, Janie was the daughter of James Robert Gough and Martha Addie Wood Gough. She graduated from Sunset High School in 1963 and soon after began building a life marked by creativity, resilience, and a strong sense of independence.
Janie married Jerry Wayne Grogan on June 6, 1964. Their union spanned over six decades and was rooted in mutual respect and shared adventures. Together they built a life that reflected Janie's many talents and interests.
Professionally, Janie began her career as a hairdresser, a role she held for twenty years. Her eye for detail and steady hands served her well in this field. Later, she transitioned into entrepreneurship—first owning a jewelry business in Downtown Dallas before relocating to Wills Point where she and Jerry operated a grocery and hardware store. Her work ethic and adaptability were evident throughout her varied career.
Janie had a vibrant personality that blended intelligence with resourcefulness. A self-described tomboy with a crafty streak, she found joy in both the quiet art of crocheting and the thrill of outdoor pursuits. She lovingly created numerous afghans over the years—each one gifted to family or friends as a warm reminder of her care. She also had a passion for bass fishing and dove hunting, hobbies that reflected her love for nature and adventure.
Her affection extended to animals as well; dogs and cats held a special place in her heart throughout her life. Janie was also a member of the Wills Point Ladies Club during earlier years in the community.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Jerry Wayne Grogan; her sister Martha Evelyn Dodson; and four nephews who were part of her extended family circle.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert Gough and Martha Addie Wood Gough; and her sister Elaine McDonough.
A woman of many talents and deep convictions, Janie will be remembered fondly by those who knew her—for her strength, creativity, love of the outdoors, and generous spirit. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
