Billy Jack Bateman, born on May 1, 1944, in Van Zandt County, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, in Tyler, Texas at The Hospice of East Texas. He was the beloved son of C.L. Bateman and Dorothy Dee Brown Bateman.
Billy was known for his generous spirit, quick wit, and thoughtful nature. His smile could light up a room. A talented musician, he played both the guitar and piano and led his own band, Cadillac Jack and the Hubcaps. He also enjoyed cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs football teams, a pastime that brought him great joy.
Billy served in the United States Army National Guard for 6 years and was Honorably discharged of his duties in 1972. He dedicated much of his professional life to Phillips Lumber Company before retiring from Ryder Logistics in 2007. His work ethic and dedication were admired by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son Billy Wayne Bateman; daughter Laura Kay Alexander; two sisters Bobbie Holland and Johnnie Cooper; and two cherished grandchildren, Erica Louise Jones and Lana Nicole Bateman. Billy was also deeply loved by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Anna Dee Hammett.
A funeral service to honor Billy's life will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home, located at 205 Corky Boyd Avenue in Wills Point, TX. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery in Wills Point.
Billy Jack Bateman's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy of kindness and laughter bring comfort to all who mourn his passing. And may memories of his sense of humor continue to inspire smiles.
