Shortly after high school, he began his professional journey at Texas Instruments, where he worked for seven years. His career path later led him to California, where he spent 15 years honing his skills before returning to Texas. Upon his return, Billy embraced his passion for woodworking and became a skilled carpenter known for creating beautiful cabinets that reflected both artistry and precision. He retired in 2007 after a fulfilling career.

Billy's life was enriched by the love of family. He is lovingly remembered by daughters Brandi Stanford and husband David, Kimberley Foster, Sunni Arnold, and Karen Hathcoat; son Daren Jones; grandchildren Hayley and husband Jessy Spurgeon, Hannah and husband Ashton Pierce, Heidi, Harley, Slade, Grayson, Jack, Amber, and Abbie; and eleven great-grandchildren: Penelope, Pehlani, Prezlyn, Jude, along with seven others. Billy found joy in life's simple pleasures—watching sports with enthusiasm, listening to music that stirred the soul, tending to yard work with care and pride, and nurturing plants with a gentle hand. A devoted dog lover, Billy shared a special bond with his beloved dog "Scooter," who was truly his world.  He also had an appreciation for fine wine and was known as a collector and connoisseur.

A person of deep compassion and generosity, Billy volunteered with Meals on Wheels where he offered not only meals but also kindness and ministry to everyone he encountered. His faith journey began with baptism in the Church of Christ—a foundation that guided his servant-hearted approach to life.
