Bobbie Lee Childs, a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Royse City, Texas, on April 18, 2026. Born on May 23, 1935, in Gladewater, Texas, Bobbie's life was marked by service, kindness, and a deep commitment to those around him.

A proud graduate of Mart High School, Class of 1953, Bobbie’s journey was shaped by strong roots in multiple towns across Texas. Following his education, he answered the call of duty and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from January 1955 until January 1959. His service is a testament to his dedication and courage, qualities that defined much of his life.

Bobbie’s professional career saw him working with Austin Industries until his retirement in 2005. Known for his precision and goodness, he was widely respected and well-liked by colleagues and friends alike. Beyond his work, Bobbie was known for his gentle nature, especially his warmth and kindness toward children, highlighting a nature that was both sweet and giving.

An active Shriner, Bobbie found joy in community involvement and carried forward a legacy of generosity and fellowship. His hobbies included fishing and spending quiet moments reading his newspaper, times that brought him personal peace and contentment.

He is dearly survived by his wife, Charlene Childs, along with his bonus daughters, Angela Baxley and Michelle Thompson. Bobbie’s legacy continues vibrantly through his grandchildren: Michael Baxley, Matthew Baxley, Elizabeth Baxley, Jayden Thompson, Marissa Thompson, Michael Thompson, Ashlyn Thompson, Danielle Thompson, Aiden Thompson, and Jacob Thompson, all of whom brought immense joy to his later years.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Dyer Childs, and his beloved parents, Leroy Velton Childs and Merle Riley Childs, whose memories he cherished deeply.

Funeral services will be held on May 8, 2026, beginning at 9:30 AM and concluding at 10:00 AM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas, 75211. This service will honor a life well lived and a man dearly loved by many.
