Obituary

Bobby Lynn Pope Sr., aged 83, went to sleep in a hospital bed and awoke in the Presence of His Savior on September 15, 2024, in Sunnyvale, Texas. Born on October 2, 1940, to Wallace and Mamie Pope.  He is greatly loved and respected by his family and friends.  His life was a living example of what it looks like to become the hands, feet, and heart of our Savior.

Bobby met Mary Hollingsworth in the Youth Group at the Southwest Revival Center in Dallas, Texas.  He said that when he heard her sing, the LORD told him that he was going to marry that girl.  Their honeymoon was a revival meeting in Chicago. They made it their goal to always put GOD first in their marriage. They met that goal.

Bobby dedicated his life to serving as pastor at Calvary Full Gospel Church in Mesquite, Texas for over 25 years and presiding over Calvary Kids Christian Academy for 12.  He was the President of Christ the Great Shepherd Fellowship until his retirement, was a standing member of Victory New Testament Fellowship and served on the Board of Tom Jacobs Ministries.  After retiring as Pastor at Calvary, he was actively involved in Trinity Family Church.  His one-on-one attention to those who sought his wisdom greatly impacted many lives.

Bobby took great pleasure in reading his Bible and read it through every year (at least once).  In later years, he also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles; but those who knew him earlier in life would testify to his great love for playing football and wrestling. He was known for his great strength, but his greatest asset was his gentle heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Wallace (Dub) Pope Jr. and Edgar (Teddy) Pope, and his sister Carol Pope Kelleher.

Bobby was a loving husband to Mary Hollingsworth Pope and a devoted father to Bobby Lynn Pope, Jr. and his wife Michele, Patricia Rouse and her husband Curt, and Darla Ruth Reffitt and her husband John. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Jason (Sarah), Brandy (Jeff), Rebekah, Bobby III (Rosemary), Rachel (Javier), Joshua (Molly), John Jr. (Lily), Luke, and Jacob, as well as 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He also leaves behind his sister, Sue Atkins, brothers-in-law, Ed Kelleher and wife Li, James Doyle Hollingsworth, sister-in-law ("daughter") Maudie Ruth Thornell and husband Curtis, nephew, Mike Atkins, nieces: Debbie Richardson, Kim Snyder, MaDonna Branch and Christi Kelleher.  There are also great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends and church family too numerous to list, but greatly loved.

The family will receive friends and loved ones at Trinity Family Church in Talty, Texas.  Visitation will be at 1:00 and Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 on Friday, September 20, 2024.  Bobby Pope's life and legacy will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Gideons International. (Envelopes will be available at Trinity Family Church)
