Dolores Gaylene Massey (Pittman), aged 95, of Wills Point, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, in Rowlett, Texas. Born on December 1, 1928, in Childress, Texas, she lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by her devotion to church, family, education, and arts.
Dolores graduated from high school in Tyler, Texas, in 1946 and earned a master's in education from North Texas State University in 1963. She dedicated her career to teaching in Corpus Christi ISD, Wichita Falls ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, and Wills Point ISD, before retiring in 1985. Post-retirement, Dolores worked with Eddie Deen catering services and enjoyed her First Monday booth where she sold her arts and crafts.
She was a member of the Wills Point Church of Christ, where she was actively involved in church missionary trips and taught English to non-native speakers. Dolores was known for her loving, caring, and talented nature. Her hobbies included cooking, arts and crafts, and traveling. She was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and had a special love for her cats and small dogs.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, C.D. and Ruth Pittman, her husband Felix Massey, whom she married on December 22, 1956, in Wichita Falls, and her sister Gwen Thompson. She is survived by her son Charles Massey (Brenda), daughter Christy Zirnheld (Dan), brother Jim Pittman (Janet), sister Linda Cantrell (Dale), grandchildren Alex Zirnheld (Samantha), Ben Zirnheld, James Massey, and Emily Massey, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks are extended to her caregivers, Ana Miranda and Pat Dickerson, for their compassionate support.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Wills Point Church of Christ located at 302 Corky Boyd Ave., Wills Point, Texas, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Wills Point Church of Christ Missions.
Dolores's legacy of kindness, creativity, and faith will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
