Obituary

Donald Wayne Wheeler, a devoted family man, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. Born on July 21, 1956, in Canton, Texas, he spent all 69 years of his life in Wills Point. Donald’s wife of 50 years, Linda, his sons Robert and Justin, his mother Ellen, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all continue to live in the Van Zandt County area.

Throughout his life, Donald contributed to his community in numerous ways. His father, Leon, founded Wheeler's Garage in 1973, and Donald was well known for driving a tow truck with one or both of his sons throughout Van Zandt County. Although the garage closed in 2012 following Leon’s passing, it remains fondly remembered. Donald served as a licensed EMT/Firefighter with the Wills Point Volunteer Fire Department for eight years, and was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts for 18 years, proudly mentoring Robert and Justin to become Eagle Scouts. Donald touched countless hearts within his community.

A committed family man and churchgoer, Donald participated in the Midway Baptist Church as Music Director, and at Northridge Baptist Church, he was Music Director and Co-Commander of the AWANA Club alongside Linda for roughly five years. Linda also served as Northridge Baptist Church's Treasurer during that period.

Since 2013, Donald, Linda, Ellen, and their family have been members of the Church of Christ. Donald was involved in the Crestwood Nursing Home’s Music Ministry from 2014 to 2020.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ellen Wheeler; Linda, his wife of 50 years; his sons, Robert and Jamie Wheeler of Wills Point, Texas, Justin and Amanda Wheeler of Wills Point, Texas; his grandchildren, Paisley, Alexus, Emilee, Matthew, and Cameron; four great-grandchildren; his nephew Joseph Allen and wife Sydney Wheeler, and many extended family members and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his father Leon Wheeler and brother Joseph Lee Wheeler. His legacy of strength, dedication, and unwavering love will inspire his family and all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and cherished always.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Wills Point. In accordance with the family's wishes, attendees are invited to bring their preferred covered dish and participate in fellowship with family and friends.
