Memorial service for Donald Ray "Donnie" Mathis, 77, of Wills Point, formerly of Mabank, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Mr. Russell Harris officiating.
He passed away early Thursday morning, June 27, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
Donnie was born October 8, 1941, in Canton, the son of Frank Noble Mathis and Janie Copprell Mathis. He was raised in Dallas, where he attended public school. On October 29, 1986, he married Linda Colleen Gibson in Kaufman. Donnie owned and operated his own construction business, North Texas Interiors in Dallas, retiring in 2017. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, traveling, feeding cows and watching John Wayne movies. Donnie was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Donnie was honest, respectful, and taught his kids and grandkids to be the same. He lived in Mabank prior to moving to Wills Point in 1987. Donnie was a member of the Carpenters Union and was of the Baptist faith.
Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Janie Mathis; brother, Kenneth Mathis and a sister, Helen Lasater.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Linda Mathis, of Wills Point; son, Robert Keith Smith & wife, Charee, of Mt. Belvieu; two daughters, Stacy Smith Schimming, of Friendswood and Felicia Zummer, of Forney; two brothers, Noble Mathis, of Terrell and Jerry Mathis, of Eustace and eight grandchildren, Kagen, Kelby, Kori, Carter, Cody, Skyler, Daniel and Emily.
