Laurel Douglas (Doug) Small, 85, of Wills Point, Texas went to be with his Lord on August 9, 2021, in Terrell, Texas.
Doug was born March 24, 1936, in Terrell, Texas to the late Laurel and Polly Small. His family moved to Wills Point in his youth, and he graduated Wills Point High School in the class of 1954. After graduation, he attended and graduated from East Texas State College. He married his beloved wife Patricia Ashworth on September 14, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Wills Point where they were members for many years. Most recently, they held their membership at Lakeside Baptist Church in Canton, Texas.
In his early career, Doug owned Doug Small Service Station, worked as a salesman at Queen City Chevrolet, an accountant at Texas Industries, as a probation officer for Van Zandt County and eventually retired from Wills Point ISD as a School Resource Officer. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking.
Doug was also very active in community and civic activities. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Wills Point. He served his city as a volunteer fireman, and was Chief of Wills Point Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 381, helping several young men attain the coveted Eagle Scout badge.
To cherish his memories, Doug leaves behind his wife, Pat Small, of Wills Point; son, Mike Small, of Plano; daughter, Laura Williams and her husband Chuck, of Hewitt; grandchildren Bryan Williams and Matthew Williams; niece, Judy Bates and many other loving relatives and friends.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nadine Kurzu; and nephew, Robert Kurzu.
The family will be receiving guests for visitation on Friday, August 13, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Allan Fuller Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point, Texas.
