Baker
March 7, 1935 – April 20, 2020
Eleta Nelson Baker, died April 20, 2020, at the age of 85, following a five year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Wills Point, TX, to the late Jim and Zethel Whitton, Eleta grew up with an older brother and three younger sisters and graduated from Wills Point High School. She was married for more than forty six years to Clifton A. Nelson, who preceded her in death in March of 2000. Eleta's parents also preceded her in death, along with sister, Shirley Cockerham; son, Marty Nelson; nephews, Roger Whitton, David Whitton and Scott Linebarger. After living in Grand Prairie for some forty years and retiring from GPISD as a library aid, she married Derrell Baker in 2006. Derrell and Eleta lived in Wills Point the past fourteen years at Baker's Acres. Always focused on family, the role of career homemaker, mother, seamstress, cook, caregiver, and grandmother, Eleta leaves us with a lifetime of precious memories and examples of selfless devotion.
Survivors include husband Derrell Baker, brother Elton Whitton and wife Shirley, sister Joyce Bryan, sister Joan Linebarger and husband Jack, son Clif Nelson and wife Leesa, son Steve Nelson, grandchildren Amanda Morcossi and husband John, Alison Thornton and husband Austin, Shawn Nelson and wife Delaina, three great-grandchildren: Easton Nelson, Kaden Nelson, and Jaxon Thornton. She is also survived by nieces Carolyn Lumry, Debbie Crawford and husband Ted, Beth Brown and husband Curtis, Rebecca Brown and husband Dean, Gwen Abider and husband Ehab, Carla Maldonado, Susan Judd and husband David; nephews Tim Whitton and wife Deborah, Jimmy Cockerham and wife Leisha; as well as dozens of great-nieces and great-nephews; step children Beverly Prachyl and husband Alan, Steve Baker and wife Mary Ann, Wesley Baker and wife Pamela, Sandra Fink and husband Ken.
Eleta strived to be all inclusive to everyone with as much grace and hospitality that she could extend. She was a member of New Release Fellowship Baptist Church in Wills Point with husband Derrell Baker, former member of Fairview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, and Mathew Road Baptist Church in Grand Prairie.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 24, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Allan Fuller Funeral Home. Graveside will follow at White Rose Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. in Wills Point, TX.
Arrangements are under the care of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
