Emily Rose
Hollandsworth
January 23, 1924 – March 4, 2024
Emily Rose Thompson Hollandsworth, 100, passed away March 4 in Dallas, where she lived for the past 15 years.
Emily was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Wills Point to Mertie and Thomas Edgar Thompson (aka Ducky and Cap) and graduated from Wills Point High School in 1941, where she led the Tiger marching band as drum major. She graduated from Rutherford Business College in Dallas the following year.
As a young bachelorette, Emily enjoyed careers as an office administrator at the U.S. Quartermaster Depot in Fort Worth; at the No. 1 British Flying Training School for the RAF in Terrell during World War II, as part of the United States' Lend Lease Agreement; then with the Pennsylvania Railroad as a passenger representative in both Washington, D.C., and on the Dallas-to-Chicago route.
Emily married the love of her life in 1948, a handsome young engineer from Mississippi, Frank Majors Hollandsworth. Even though from the beginning he confessed he could not dance (an alarming demerit), the pair enjoyed their happily ever after for 48 years in Wills Point, until Frank passed away in 1996.
In addition to Frank, Emily was preceded in death by her beloved parents Ducky and Cap, and son-in-law Walter Gaddy. She is survived by their four loving daughters, including Ann (John) Kleine, Patti Gaddy, Susan (Marc) Pace and Sally (Rick) Wamre; 10 wonderful grandchildren, including Kristen Kleine Hands, Stephen Majors Kleine, John Walter Gaddy, Holly Grace Gaddy, Travis Majors Pace, Garret Thompson Pace, Chandler Pace Joslin, Erica Pace Loftin, Jackson Cade Wamre, Clark Tanner Wamre, and 15 precious great grandchildren.
Following Emily's death, family found obituary notes she had written for her "someday" day.
And we quote: "Do not say I was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand, friend, etc., and all who knew me were fortunate. (This is true, of course, but don't 'flower' obit.) Do not say I am survived by four loving daughters, 10 wonderful grandchildren and 15 precious great grands, and countless friends (because I've outlived most of my friends). This is all true, of course, but keep it down." (Oops. Sorry Mom: We accidentally flowered the obit before we found your note.)
Pall bearers are John Kleine, Marc Pace, Rick Wamre, Clark Wamre, John Walter Gaddy and Rusty Miracle.
The family will host visitation Saturday, March 16 at 10 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m., followed by graveside services at noon under the direction of Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
In lieu of flowers, Emily requested memorial donations be made to White Rose Cemetery Association.
