Funeral services for Frances Eugenia Holt, 85, of Wills Point, formerly of Terrell, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Saturn Road Church of Christ in Garland with Mr. Walter Buchanan and Mr. John Scott officiating. Graveside service will follow at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point.
She went to her Eternal Home early Monday morning, January 15, 2018.
Frances was born February 20, 1932, in Norman, Arkansas, the daughter of John Martin Smith and Martha Alice Ledbetter Smith. She was raised in Norman and in Dallas. In 1949, she graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas and later attended Eastfield College and North Lake College. On December 23, 1949, she married Donald Holt in Dallas. In her early career, she was a secretary for test pilots in Texas. The family moved to Connecticut, where she was the assistant to Admiral Rickover in Groton, Connecticut. In 1967, they moved to South Carolina, where she was an avid gardener and then back to Texas in 1970. Frances was formerly employed for twenty years by the Mesquite I.S.D. as a special education teacher, retiring in 1999. Frances, or Frankie, as most of her siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins called her, was a loving, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend will be remembered with fond memories forever. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, camping, playing 42 with friends, quilting, crocheting, singing, working crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered as being an incredible cook. She lived in Mesquite then Terrell prior to moving to Wills Point in July 2017. Frances was a faithful member of the Mesquite Church of Christ for over thirty years before moving to Terrell, where she was a member at Rockwall & Brin Church of Christ, Colquitt Road Church of Christ and later the Wills Point Church of Christ. She loved children and taught Bible classes for over forty years.
Frances was the youngest of nine living children and was preceded in death by her parents, John Martin Smith and Mattie Smith; five brothers, Oliver Smith, Dexter Smith, Clarence Smith, Martin Smith and Curtis Smith and three sisters, Gertrude Richardson, Avo Goodner and Nora Williamson.
Those left behind to cherish her memories include her husband of sixty-eight years, Donald E. Holt; daughter, DiAnne Morrow; son, Robert Holt; daughter, Donna Small & husband, Wayne Pope; and son, Terry Holt. She also leaves two beloved grandsons, Joshua Small & wife, Kristen and Jeremy Small & wife, Rebekah along with great grandchildren, Stone Small, Titus Small, Ram Small, Holly Hill, Luke Small and Hudson Hill and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
