Fred Carl
Baker, Jr.
June 24, 1952 – June 26, 2025
Fred Carl Baker Jr., 73, passed away on June 26, 2025, in Mesquite, Texas. Born on June 24, 1952, in Denver, Colorado, Fred lived a life marked by dedication, quiet strength, and enduring loyalty to those around him.
A 1970 graduate of Terrell High School, Fred began his professional journey immediately after graduation at Terrell State Hospital. There, he found his calling in service to others and rose to the position of shift supervisor over the adolescent unit. His career spanned more than three decades until his retirement in 2002. Throughout his tenure, Fred was known for his steady leadership and commitment to the well-being of those under his care.
Fred's life outside of work reflected his deep appreciation for nature and tradition. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting and fishing. His passion extended to collecting knives and firearms—a hobby that reflected both his respect for craftsmanship and his membership in the National Rifle Association.
A man of faith, Fred was a member of the Methodist church. His values were evident in the way he lived: wise in counsel, loving in spirit, and selfless in action.
Fred is survived by his devoted two best friends who stood by him through life's many seasons—Harry Burnett and Leon Workman and Vicki; and an adopted family he held close to his heart—Nancy Morris and her husband Jamie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Carl Baker Sr. and Ruby Fay Reid.
Fred's legacy lives on through the lives he touched with quiet generosity and unwavering support. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
