Frederick Herbert
Schaphorst
January 7, 1945 – October 3, 2025
Frederick Herbert Schaphorst, 80, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. Known to many as "Uncle Fred", his life was characterized by one desire. That all may know Jesus.
Born on January 7, 1945, in Denver, Colorado, Fred was the son of Herbert Schaphorst and Lois (Wilson) Schaphorst. He graduated from Englewood High School in 1962, and after the Lord got a hold of his life, he began a lifelong journey of service. For more than 40 years, he dedicated himself to Christian ministry, touching countless lives around the globe with his quiet strength and unwavering commitment to prayer.
He retired from full-time ministry in 2020 but continued to share his Savior's love at every available opportunity.
On October 16, 1976, Fred married the love of his life, Lucile "Luci" (Hibbard) Schaphorst, in Anthony, Kansas. Through the almost 49 years of marriage, they sought to honor the Lord with their lives and marriage. There were many opportunities to encourage, share a meal, a laugh (or tears), or pray with brothers and sisters from all walks of life.
Fred is lovingly remembered by his wife Luci; his sons Stephen Schaphorst and wife Jen, and Samuel Schaphorst and wife Rachel; and grandsons Caleb and Zac. Not to forget the countless others who knew him as "Uncle Fred."
A humble man who lived by example rather than words alone, Fred was known as a man dedicated to prayer and always ready with an encouraging word. His days were often filled with reading scripture and studying the Bible–practices that grounded him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lois Schaphorst; his sister, Rhoda Horrom; and brother-in-law, Dan Horrom.
Fred's legacy is one of quiet strength, enduring faith, and heartfelt devotion to his Savior. Many people were introduced to his Heavenly Father through his service, prayers, and ministry. To God be the glory.
