Obituary

Gene Tuney Cornwell, 93 of Wills Point, Texas passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, in Tyler, Texas.

Gene was born on March 26, 1929, in Van Zandt County to the late William and Modie Cornwell. Gene grew up in Edgewood, TX where he graduated from Edgewood High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gene married his wife of over 50 years, Joyce Goggans, on July 20, 1957, in Wills Point. In 1956, he was honorably discharged from the Army and soon went to work for the United States Post Office in Dallas, TX where he retired in 1984. Gene was a member of Elwood Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, cattle, gambling, and tractors.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Truett Cornwell and Jackie Ray Cornwell; wife Joyce Cornwell; daughter Shirley Kizzia and husband Joe and grandson Chris.

Gene is survived by his sons James Cornwell and Mike Goggans; daughter Sandy Runion; brother Jerry Cornwell; grandchildren Chastity Cornwell, Greg Cornwell, Jeff Cornwell, Cody Cornwell, April Baucom, Eric Bowling, Melissa Millsap, Kim Goggans Britton, Nicole Goggans, Dana Contreras, Lori Raxter, Julie Ray, and Jamie Ray; numerous great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson and many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Gene Tuney Cornwell will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, from 5pm to 7pm at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at mullinfullerfuneralhome.com.
