Grady Marie Wright

Grady "Marie" Wright (Busby), passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, in Canton, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on March 27, 1936, in Irving, Texas, Marie lived a life distinguished by dedication, faith, and love for her family and community.

Marie attended Commerce Public Schools before pursuing her passion for funeral services at the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. She was a licensed funeral director and embalmer until May 2001, having completed her apprenticeship at Delta Funeral Home in Cooper, Texas. Her professional journey included significant contributions at Hampton Vaughn Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas, and Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home in Friona, Texas, where she worked faithfully until 1986.

Known for her forthright nature, congenial spirit, and unwavering determination, Marie spoke her mind with kindness and maintained a positive outlook throughout her life. She was a woman deeply devoted to the Lord and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Her favorite scriptures, Psalm 23 and Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, were often quoted, reflecting her spiritual strength and guidance. Marie once shared, “I have been blessed with a wonderful life and devoted family. With the Lord Jesus Christ by my side. I’ve worked hard, played while I worked. The jobs & chores I’ve done were challenging and fun! If I had it all to do over, I’d choose the simple, light way to travel this path. Walk slowly, think, pray, enjoy rain clouds, each & every flower, stone, sky, rainbows, sunshine, and God’s creations!”

Her talents extended beyond her profession. Marie was an avid seamstress and surrounded herself with the art of crochet and quilting. She enjoyed listening to audiobooks and had a deep appreciation for antiques, finding joy in the preservation of history and craftsmanship.

Marie is survived by her beloved son Charles Bradford, and daughters Patricia Bradford and Sandra Briley. She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Christi Skaggs, Charles Bradford, Lacey Briley, and Chelsea Briley. These living family members carry forward her legacy of love, faith, and perseverance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wright; her parents, Grady Robert Busby and Mary Etta Andrews Busby; her daughter Deborah Diane Skaggs; and her siblings Wilburn Busby, Robert Busby, John Busby, Donald Busby, David Busby, and Mildred Johnson.
