Helen Jean Mayfield was born on June 18, 1953 in Jacksonville, Texas. She was the 6th of 8 children. The daughter of Homer and Roberta Richards. She accepted the Lord as her Savior and belonged to "The Gathering of Christ Church". Helen worked for many years as a Correctional Officer and in Childhood Education. She was a college graduate and earned two Bachelor Degrees, one in education and one in business. Helen had a passion for working with children and took pleasure in being a role model.

Helen loved spending time with her family, friends and church family. She was an active member in her church and enjoyed attending special family and church events. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. Fellowship with others brought her the most joy. Helen worked to live a life that was honorable to the Most High and cared and served others.

Helen is preceded in death by her father and mother, Homer and Roberta Richards; brothers, Welton Richards and Bill Richards.

She is survived by her three sons, Amond Mayfield and wife Amber, Isaac Mayfield and wife Alyss, and Ricky Mayfield; sisters, Vernice "Marie" Johnson, Artie Faye Bowens and Verdie B. Mosley; brothers, Herman Richards and wife Daisy, and James H. Richards;; grandchildren, Aubrie Mayfield, Amaya Mayfield, Amond "AJ" Mayfield, Alexander Mayfield, Jaylon Mayfield, Alaysha Mayfield, Izayah Mayfield, Tomarro Wilson, Ari'elen Mayfield and Amari Mayfield; great grandson, Blane Chandler-Mayfield; goddaughter, Corinthia "Coco" Jordan; her two earthly angels, Lucy Lacy and Virginia Brown; Christian sisters, Lillie Miles and Annie Faye Lane and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
