Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Jackie Lavon McBride, affectionately known as “McBird.” He passed away on May 20, 2026, at age 89, in Grand Saline, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and treasured memories.

Jackie was a retired builder, carpenter, farmer, and rancher in Van Zandt County. Born on the family farm in Edgewood, Texas, he graduated from Edgewood High School in 1954 and attended Henderson County College in Athens for two years.

He began his career at the Ford Motor Company and worked there until the plant closed in 1970. He then found his true calling in carpentry and homebuilding, a trade he continued with pride until retirement.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Carlus “Snooks” McBride and Wilma Neely McBride; his wife, Wanda McBride; his brother, Gayther McBride, and sister-in-law, Sue McBride; his sisters, Carlye Grissom and Judy Chitty; his brother-in-law, Ellis Grissom; his son, Scott McBride; his son-in-law, Russell Harris; and his stepson, Billy Rozelle.

He is survived by his children, Ross and Faye McBride of Edgewood, Texas; Amy Harris and Ben Earley of Ladonia, Texas; and Gregg McBride of Savannah, Texas; his companion, Carolyn Hendrix of Edgewood; his brother-in-law, Randall Chitty of Edgewood, Texas; and his grandchildren, Wyatt and Ashley McBride, Audrey McBride and Salvador Flores, Regina and John Dushane, Lindsay and Eric Vaughn, and Crystal and Stuart Hall. He also leaves behind many other cherished family members—including stepchildren, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren—who were the pride of his life and knew him as PawPaw.

Jackie was a man of Christian faith and a proud member of the Odd Fellows, where he valued fellowship and service to others. He loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and living the farm life that kept him close to his roots.

His humor, wisdom, and stories will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The obituary was lovingly written by the family in memory of their loved one.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour before the service.

McBird
He could communicate without saying a word
You could see on his face when emotions were stirred
He was happy when out in the field with his herd
The man they sometimes called McBird
He loved his grandkids, even when they acted like a turd
Was as quick with his wit as a horse that was spurred
Always there for his family, to undergird
Daddy, Paw Paw, the man called McBird
Today we find comfort in the stories we’ve heard
While Jack takes a seat at the table reserved
We love you, we miss you, with tears that have blurred
Looking toward Heaven, where flew the McBird
