Jerry Farris Hardin

Jerry Farris Hardin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 89. Born on March 12, 1937, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Jerry was the cherished son of the late Farris Hardin and Agnes Bales Hardin.

Jerry’s early years were spent in Wichita Falls, where he attended the city’s public schools. After forging the foundation of lifelong values and friendships there, he went on to build a long and respected career with the Dallas Morning News. In a remarkable professional journey stretching over three decades, Jerry dedicated himself fully to his work before retiring in 2001, leaving behind not just accomplishments, but stories and friendships that would last a lifetime.

At the heart of Jerry's life was his enduring and loving partnership with Anna, whom he married on September 10, 1955, in Oklahoma. Their union was a lasting testament to devotion and commitment, spanning over seventy years. Together, they raised a family whose love and admiration for Jerry remains immeasurable.

Jerry was a devoted and generous family man, remembered most for his caring nature and warmth. He was a wonderful husband to Anna, an awesome father and steadfast friend. He is deeply missed by his wife, Anna Hardin; his sons, Gary Hardin and his wife Brenda, Donald Hardin and his wife Karri, and Robert Hardin. His legacy also lives on through his grandchildren—Devin, Andrea, Michael, Justin, Jerry, Brandi, Robert, Faith, and Jacob—and a cherished group of great-grandchildren: Brody, Beckham, Kevyn, Angel, Elic, Elijah, Lil’ Michael, Carson, Jax, Jayden, Makayla, Ariana, Kelsey, Melody, and Layla. Jerry is lovingly remembered by his sister, Joan Hennan, and his sister-in-law, Nina Quick.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Farris Hardin and Agnes Bales Hardin, as well as by his brothers-in-law, James Hennan and Charles Quick.

Even after retirement, Jerry’s zest for life remained undiminished. He found true joy relaxing by the water, fishing on riverbanks and boats alike, or in the woods enjoying deer hunting. He was happiest surrounded by family during poker nights, a tradition marked by laughter and togetherness. Jerry also developed a passion for storage auctions, searching for hidden treasures, always with a twinkle of curiosity and excitement in his eyes. Watching westerns became a favored pastime, connecting him to cherished stories and simpler times.

Jerry made his home in Wills Point for the past four years, following many years spent in Mesquite, Texas. Regardless of where he lived, Jerry’s door and heart were always open, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.

A gathering to honor and celebrate Jerry Farris Hardin’s rich and meaningful life will be held in accordance with his family’s wishes. His legacy of generosity, kindness, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
