Funeral services for Jimmie Wilbourn, 87, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Andrew Cross and Mr. Russell Harris officiating. Interment will follow at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point.
He passed away Sunday afternoon, December 17, 2017, in Canton.
Jimmie was born June 29, 1930, in Wills Point, the son of Quitman A. Wilbourn and Mattie Vaudie Ezell Wilbourn. He was raised in Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School in 1948. Jimmie was known for always being a hard worker. He got his Social Security card when he was 9 years old to start a paper route. He also worked as a soda jerk at Bruce and Humans and various other jobs to help his family during the Great Depression. Jimmie was a veteran of the United States Air National Guard. On June 16, 1951, he married Anna Lois Granberry in Winona. He was formerly employed by Jamieson's Cleaners in Wills Point, worked as a door to door salesman for Manor Bakers in Plano and later owned dry cleaners in Wills Point and in Kemp. For most of his working life, he was a route salesman for Washington National Insurance Company, retiring in 1991. He was known to treat his customers with great kindness and even sometimes pay their premiums out of pocket until they could get back on their feet. He loved being involved in church where he served in various roles including Sunday School Director for children and as a deacon. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and dominoes, gardening, bowling and watching his grandkids play sports. Jimmie was a member of Fin & Feather in Wills Point and the First Christian Church in Wills Point.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Quitman and Vaudie Wilbourn; two brothers, John Wilbourn and Ezell Wilbourn; sister, Mina Gene Granberry and a granddaughter, Michelle Wilbourn.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Anna Wilbourn, of Wills Point; four sons, Jason Wilbourn & wife, Darla, of Wills Point, Kevin Wilbourn & wife, Keenah, of Hallsville, Chris Wilbourn, of Wills Point and Joey Wilbourn & wife, Nanda, of Brownwood; daughter, Gwen Anthony, of Mabank; seventeen grandchildren, Landon Moses, Casey Moses, Laura-Beth Allison, Kristi Redding & husband, Raymond, Lindsey Hallman & husband, Brandon, Jonathon Boyer, Jacob Wilbourn, Eric Boyer & wife, Jordan, Logan Boyer & wife Carley, Caleb Wilbourn, Josh Wilbourn, Jerry Anthony, Jana Anthony, Jill Brown, Jennifer Herndon & husband, Quincey, Lori Cole and husband, Jeff and Jimmie E. Wilbourn; twenty-three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
