Obituary

Jo Mae England, 91, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Wills Point, Texas. Born on November 8, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas, she lived a long and colorful life marked by resilience, humor, and an unmistakable zest for living.

Jo Mae was the daughter of Jack Wallace and Georgia Reed Wallace. She spent much of her life in Rendon, Texas, where she resided from the 1960s until 2017. Her deep roots in the community were reflected in her service as a member of the Rendon Volunteer Fire Department and her active participation in local life.

Professionally, Jo Mae worked as a switchboard operator for Chase Bank until her retirement. Her career reflected her sharp mind and strong work ethic—qualities that remained with her throughout her life.

She was married to Eldon England for over fifty years—a partnership built on enduring love and shared adventures. Together they raised three children: William England; Judith Adams and her husband Richard; and Debora Jean England, who preceded Jo Mae in death.

Jo Mae's legacy continues through her grandchildren: John Mauldin and his wife Kim; Beth Matich and her husband Mike; and Cindi Paden and her husband Josh. She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren. Her brother Charles Davis also survives her.

A woman of many passions, Jo Mae was known for her green thumb and could coax beauty from even the most stubborn soil. Her baking skills were legendary among those lucky enough to sample her creations.

Her vibrant spirit led to stories that became family legends—none more memorable than the time she smuggled a parrot out of Mexico not once but twice. That same boldness defined much of who she was: energetic, unapologetic, and always full of surprises.

Jo Mae had a special place in her heart for animals, especially stray cats. Known affectionately as a "crazy-cat lady," she never met a feline she wouldn't feed or shelter. Her compassion extended beyond people to all living creatures.

A woman of Christian faith, Jo Mae lived with conviction and authenticity. She brought energy into every room she entered and left behind stories that will be told for generations.
