John Dempsey
Neill
March 9, 1931 – August 28, 2022
John Dempsey Neill was born March 9, 1931, on the family farm where he lived his whole life until he died at the age of 91 on August 28, 2022. He was married to Doris Neill for 26 years and they had four children together, Anita, Sharla, Jason, and Edith.
He served in the Army during the Korean War, and he worked for the electric company in Terrell for 32 years until he retired in 1987. That same year, he and Helen Byers were married, and they were together for 35 years until she died at the age of 93 earlier this year.
He was very active in his church. He was a cattle rancher. He stocked fish in his tanks and he cleaned and fried catfish for many friends and family. He kept a big garden, and he shared lots of sweet corn and other vegetables with almost everyone he knew. He loved watching westerns, and he was tough like John Wayne.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Byers Neill, by his parents, George, and Jane Neill, and by his three brothers and sister, Billy, Bobby, Peggy and Pat. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Anita and Ray Scribner, Sharla and Kevin Fuller, Jason and Janet Neill, and Edith and Keith Marvin, along with seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His faithful friend and grandson David cared for him in his home for the years leading up to his death. He led a full life, and he was a great man in the eyes of his children and many others who knew him.
