Johnny O'Neal Matthews, of Wills Point, Texas passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the age of 75.
Johnny was born on April 21, 1945 in Avery, Texas to the late Sylvester and Dovie Matthews. He was raised in Irving, Texas. He was married to Audrey Turney for 19 years. He married Patricia Worlow on October 16, 2004. He lived in Scurry, Texas for 24 years and then moved to Wills Point 13 years ago. Johnny was a member of Roundflat Pentecostal Church of Fruitvale. He retired from Yellow Freight after 35 years in 1996. Johnny enjoyed fishing, antique cars, singing bass in church, traveling in his motorhome, and most importantly spending time with his family. Johnny had a big heart and was always there when anyone needed anything, or needed a helping hand, all you had to do was call or ask and he was there with no hesitation. He never met a stranger no matter where he went by the end of the conversation you were his friend. He loved to travel and meet new people he never wanted too just be idle. He enjoyed being retired, and spending time with his family and his church family. When the church doors were opened, he was there.
To cherish his memories, Johnny leaves behind his wife Patricia Matthews of Wills Point; daughters, Teresa Marie Matthews-Fletcher of Talty, Melissa Ann Porter and Joe of Edgewood and Kimberly Dawn Williams and Deon of Fruitvale; brother Robert Lynn Matthews and Phyllis of Scurry; grandchildren, Cody, Dakota, Ashlyn, Clay and Cutter. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and many loved ones.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, brother George Wilson and sister Mary Evelyn Matthews.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Roundflat Pentecostal Church of Fruitvale, Texas. Family will be accepting guests one hour prior for visitation. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood, Texas.
