Joy Nell Tarrant Williams was born to Owen and Willie Selman Tarrant on October 21, 1940 in Josephine, Texas and passed peacefully on July 6, 2026 in San Augustine, Texas. She grew up in the Josephine area and graduated from Community High School in 1959.
Joy married Percy Williams, Jr., in 1960 and they lived in Josephine, Terrell, Elmo and Wills Point during their 46 years of marriage. Percy and Joy proudly welcomed their daughters Rhonda and Cindy in 1961 and 1962. Joy worked as an administrative assistant at Terrell State Hospital for many years. Joy greatly enjoyed hosting her family at holiday events at their log cabin in Wills Point. In retirement, Joy enjoyed traveling and the occasional cruise. She owned a home in Rockport for several years where she would stay a few weeks each year enjoying the Texas coast.
Poor health limited her travel the last few years of her life but it never dampened her love for her family and friends. She loved keeping tabs on everyone and making her nightly phone calls. She enjoyed simple pleasures like Golden Oreo cookies, chocolate Boost and watching Wheel of Fortune.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth Tarrant, and sister Wanda Morrison.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Rhonda Wood (husband Bryan) of San Augustine, Texas and Cindy Manning (husband Dyde III) of Wills Point, Texas, grandchildren Cassie Serur (husband Ash), William Wood (wife Trenda), Chris Wood, Lauren Manning and Hunter Wood, great-grandchildren Teal and Emilia Wood, sister-in-law Lynnaree Tarrant, brother-in-law Jack Flechtner, a host of other relatives and her dear friend Laura Liberty.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice and StoneCreek Nursing and Rehabilitation for their love and care.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 8, at 10:00 a.m. at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point, Texas.
