Funeral services for Julia M. Garrett, 90, of Forney, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Concord Baptist Church in Dallas with Pastor Errol Coner officiating. Interment will follow at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, Louisiana on January 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
She passed away Sunday night, December 17, 2017 at Edgewood Nursing Home in Mesquite, Texas.
Julia was born February 17, 1927, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the daughter of Alfred Rogers Grace and Mabel Cornwell Grace. She was raised in Oklahoma City, where she attended public school. Julia was married to Hayman Garrett and he preceded her in death and was laid to rest at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary. Julia was formerly employed by AT&T in Columbus, Ohio as a R.N. She lived in Iota, LA for many years with her husband and daughter, Bethaney. Following his death, Julia and Bethaney moved to O'Fallon, MO, where she lived for fourteen years and moved to Forney four months ago. She enjoyed reading and quilting in her spare time. Julia was a member of the Catholic Daughter's of America, Carmelite Sisters O.C.D. and Immaculate Conception of Dardenne in O'Fallon.
Preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Rogers Grace and Mabel Cornwell Grace; husband, Hayman Garrett; two brothers, Robert Young and Leonard Young; two cousins Jewel Johnson and Creola Mitchell.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Bethaney McDonald & husband, Damian, of Forney; two grandchildren, Damian McDonald, Jr. and Dominic McDonald; four cousins, Harriett Waller, Fred Johnson, Donetta Johnson and Fulton Mitchell; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Rosary will begin at 12:15 p.m. at the church prior to the service on Saturday.
