Obituary

Katy Olive Liebreich, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 1, 2023, in Forney, Texas. Born on February 20, 1951, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Katy was a radiant beacon of love, selflessness, and kindness throughout her seventy-two years of life.

Daughter of the late Lorene Kirk Tharp and Leroy Lavell Tharp, Katy grew up in a loving family with her sister Ruanne Miller, Barbara McBride, and the late brothers Otis Tharp, William Glenn Tharp, and Buster Tharp. She carried these familial bonds and values into her own family with her beloved husband, of 53 years, John Michael Liebreich, and their two daughters, Bonnie Liebreich Gradt and Michelle Lynn Liebreich Madden.

Katy was a proud alumnus of Grand Prairie High School, class of 1969. Her professional journey was as varied as it was fulfilling, with notable stints at Wills Point Independent School District, OK Video, Bruce & Human, and Citizens National Bank. In January 2023, she took a well-deserved retirement from her final position at the First Baptist Church Forney Texas, marking the end of a fulfilling career dedicated to serving and improving her community.

Beyond her professional life, Katy was a woman of many interests and passions. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren - Mary Gradt, Kaitlynn Gradt, Jason Gradt Jr., Michael Madden, MarLeigh Madden, and Mason Madden. Scrapbooking was another of her favorite pastimes, a testament to her love for preserving memories. She was also an enthusiastic participant in girls' day events, bringing sunshine and joy to every gathering.

Katy was an active member of her community, contributing her time and energy to numerous clubs and organizations. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Ladies Club, where she formed many lifelong friendships. Katy also enjoyed the camaraderie and spirited competition of the Wills Point Bingo Club. Her faith was an essential part of her life, reflected in her active participation in the Women of Faith group. Additionally, Katy was a dedicated board member of the PTO serving as treasurer, always striving to make a positive impact on local education.

Those who knew Katy would unanimously agree that she was a woman of extraordinary love and kindness. She was generous in her actions, always putting others before herself, and her warm, loving nature made her a joy to be around. Her legacy is one of love and generosity, and she will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know her.

Katy Olive Liebreich is survived by her husband, John Michael Liebreich; daughters, Bonnie Liebreich Gradt and husband Jason; Michelle Lynn Liebreich Madden and husband Matt; sisters, Ruanne Miller and Barbara McBride; and grandchildren, Mary Gradt, Kaitlynn Gradt, Jason Gradt Jr., Michael Madden, MarLeigh Madden, and Mason Madden. She was predeceased by her parents, Lorene Kirk Tharp and Leroy Lavell Tharp, and brothers, Otis Tharp, William Glenn Tharp, and Buster Tharp.

Her life was a testament to the power of love, warm-heartedness, and selflessness, and her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
