Kenneth Lee Mezzell, 75, of Ben Wheeler, Texas, passed away on October 27, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on June 10, 1951, in Dallas, Texas, and lived a life marked by steady devotion to his work, his family, and the simple pleasures that brought him joy.
Kenneth graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1969. He went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that reflected both duty and commitment. In his working years, he was employed by Southern Methodist University (SMU) and the City of Dallas, where he enjoyed a long career before retiring in 2019.
On February 14, 1986, he married Lizabeth Ann Lovelady in Mesquite, Texas, beginning a marriage that remained central to his life. Kenneth spent many years in Mesquite before making his home in Ben Wheeler for the last six years.
Kenneth was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He understood the value of hard work, commitment, and responsibility, and he dedicated himself to making sure those he loved were cared for. He worked tirelessly, often putting the needs of his family before his own, and his dedication was a reflection of the deep love he held for them. His work ethic, dependability, and unwavering devotion to his family will remain a lasting part of his legacy and a testament to the man he was.
He enjoyed playing guitar and listening to music, and he also found satisfaction in gun collecting, home repair, and woodworking. Whether working with his hands or enjoying the sounds of a favorite song, Kenneth carried himself with a lively spirit that left a lasting impression on those around him.
Above all, Kenneth’s life was rooted in family. He is survived by his wife, Lizabeth Mezzell; son, Sam Mezzell, and Sam's wife, Shannon; daughters Valerie Ward and Valerie’s husband, Daniel; Aleah Perry and Aleah's husband, Mike; Kayla Middleton and Kayla's husband, Lonnie; grandchildren, Mason, Bayley, Madelyn, Allyssa, Garrett, Jacob, and Gavin; and four great-grandchildren. The love of his family formed the heart of his life, and his memory will continue through the generations who knew his care, his presence, and the strength of his character.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice Alba Busby Mezzell and Edward Thurman Mezzell, and by his siblings, Bo Mezzell, Shirley Mezzell, and Betty Sue Mezzell. Their memories remained part of the story he carried throughout his life.
A funeral service for Kenneth Lee Mezzell will be held on October 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home, 205 Corky Boyd Avenue, Wills Point, Texas 75169. Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery in Wills Point.
Kenneth will be remembered for his steady hands, his colorful spirit, and the love he gave to those closest to him. His life leaves behind a dynamic and enduring legacy.
