Obituary

Kenneth Brian "Kenny" Sanders, 58, passed away in Rockwall on March 10, 2022. Kenny was born on October 8, 1963, in Beaumont, Texas to the late Don and Jerri Sanders. He was raised in Beaumont most of his life, but he spent several years in California following his dream of a musical career.  Music was his passion, but he loved supporting the Green Bay Packers and fishing.  Kenneth attended Forest Park High School.

Some of the highlights of Kenny's life included events involving music and the music profession.  By the age of thirteen, he was the lead guitarist for a band named White Hart.  Other bands he played in included Akela, Maddaxe, Tundra, Trippergore, Honey Island, and Laurel and the Untouchables.  When he was twenty-two, he won an international competition sponsored by the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), located in Hollywood, California, and Eric Clapton.  First prize included a scholarship to GIT.  His musical career in California included performing with several West Coast bands, to include Fanz and Lydia Van Huston.  As a performer, Kenny played in bands that opened for such famous groups as Great White, Blue Oyster Cult, Robin Trower, .38 Special, and Leon Russell.

Kenny always believed, however, that his greatest contribution to music were the hundreds of students he taught over the years.  For over forty years, he taught students, both young and old, to play the electric guitar, the acoustic guitar, the bass guitar, the standup bass, the banjo, the mandolin, drums, and the intricacies of music theory.  Before his passing, Kenny worked with a local recording company to upload his music on forty-eight streaming services which air around the world.  One of his greatest hopes was that future musicians would continue to be inspired by his work and that they would go on to  create more and more beautiful music.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his father, Don Sanders; mother, Jerri Sanders; and grandmother, Ava Bright.  He is survived by his brothers Joe Sanders of Beaumont; Steve Sanders of Fort Worth; and Ben Sanders of Beaumont.  Services are planned for a future date in Beaumont; online condolences may be made at mullinfullerfuneralhome.com .
