Obituary

Laura J. Levescy, 89, passed away on July 17, 2025, in Wills Point, Texas. Born on September 4, 1935, in Fruitvale, Texas, she was a proud East Texan whose life was marked by a spirited personality.

Raised in the heart of East Texas, Laura was known for being both hard-headed and stubborn—traits that served her well throughout her long and eventful life—but those who knew her best also knew her as a true sweetheart. Her warmth and determination shaped every chapter of her journey.

Laura dedicated a significant portion of her life to caring for others. She worked as a nanny, tending to children and homes with diligence and compassion. This calling took her across several states, where she left lasting impressions on the families she served. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her professional life and into the generations of family she helped raise.

She worshipped in the Baptist tradition throughout her life.

Laura's love for collecting cookie jars became one of her signature joys—a hobby that reflected both her playful side and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.

She is remembered by her son Russell Levescy; daughter Rita Stoy; sister Vivian Hickey; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy lives on through each of them.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Hodge Jackson Lightfoot and Sophie Melton Lightfoot; sons Donald Dewayne Levescy, Bobby Jack Levescy Jr., and Darren Layne Levescy; daughter Vicki Sue Watson; four sisters; and one brother.

May Laura's memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
