Linda Ruth Armstrong passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2026, in Rowlett, Texas, at the age of 89. Born Linda Ruth Rice on June 25, 1937, in Whitewright, Texas, she lived a long and deeply rooted life marked by devotion to her faith, her family, and the simple joys that brought people together.
A 1955 graduate of Garland High School, Linda soon began the next chapter of her life when she married the love of her life, James Billy Armstrong, on November 22, 1955, at First Baptist Church of Garland. That marriage became the center of a family she cherished with her whole heart. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Rowlett, loved the Lord, and carried her faith with unwavering strength through the years.
Linda worked in bookkeeping services at various companies throughout her life, bringing the same honesty and steadiness to her work that shaped her character. She was known as generous, honest, and often feisty, a woman who said what she meant and lived with conviction. Those who knew her also knew her competitive spirit. She was a lifelong athlete who competed in softball and tennis, and later in life found great pleasure playing pickleball with her sister Sarah. She also enjoyed playing Mahjong in a local Mahjong club. Whether on the court, around a game table, or heading out to a movie, she embraced life with energy and enthusiasm.
Above all else, Linda loved her family more than anything. Her care showed itself in memorable, tender ways, including always knowing each grandchild’s favorite cake. That kind of attentiveness was part of what made her such a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love was personal, practical, and enduring, and it left a mark on everyone she met.
She is survived by her husband, James Billy Armstrong; her sons, Jerry Armstrong and David Armstrong; daughters-in-law Karen Armstrong and Marlene Thrash-Armstrong; her granddaughters, Ashley Holcomb, Cassie Henault, Christi Lane, Chelsea Re' Brown, Courtney Carroll, and Lana Carroll; and her 14 great-grandchildren, Haley, Jaron, Averie, Landon, Ashton, Brooklynn, London, Rowdy, Rhett, Andrew, Karlie, Aidan, Keegan-Ray, and Declan. She is also survived by her brother, Curtis Rice, her sister, Sarah Smith and brother-in-law Ed Smith, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Rice; her mother, Katie Rice; and her siblings, Dant, Roger, Joe, Betsy, Carol Sue, Mary Ann, and Maudell.
Linda Ruth Armstrong will be remembered for her fierce love, her faith, her candor, and her delight in family. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion and a lifetime of memories that will be treasured always.
A celebration of life to honor Linda's will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rowlett located at 5001 Main St., Rowlett, Texas 75088.
