Mary Elizabeth Blackmon, 88, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018, at her son's residence in Wills Point.
Mary was born February 12, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Bert and Lillian Wicking. She was raised in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1948. Upon graduation from high school, she attended the University of Michigan. During college she joined the United States Marine Corp. reserves and entered the Marines upo n graduation. While in the Marines she married William P. Blackmon another Marine from Montgomery, AL on December 27, 1953. After the Marines, Bill and Mary moved to Montgomery AL., raised three children and started her antiques sales business which she liquidated in Michigan upon retirement in 1992. Mary relocated to Clearwater, Florida where she was a Senior Olympian and medal winner in swimming and biking. Mary also was a volunteer for the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and RCS Thrift Store. Mary was an avid Tampa Bay Ray's fan, a member of Woman Marines Chapter-Florida and served on her condo association board for many years. Mary was a super active and dedicated member of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church in Clearwater, FL.
Preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Lillian Wicking; husband, William P. Blackmon; son, Burt L. Blackmon; brother, Burt H. Wicking, Jr. and her sister, Barbara Knight.
Mary is survived by her son, Bill Blackmon & wife, Debbie, of Wills Point; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Wells & husband, Mike, of Brooklyn, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Bryan Blackmon, Steve Blackmon & wife, Kat, Jeannie Blackmon, Brittany Flory & husband, Nick, Brandon Van Burkleo, Marchita Camacho & husband, Eddie and Jake Ebarb and five great-grandchildren, McKinley Flory, Wyatt Flory, Kash Kitchen, Bailey Ebarb and Athlyn Ebarb.
