Mary Rose Phillips (Hunter), age 86, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in Canton, Texas.
Born on September 5, 1938, in Wills Point, Texas, Mary was the daughter of Delmer and Elizabeth Hunter. She grew up in East Texas alongside her siblings Jack Hunter and Peggy Hunter Guy. On January 30, 1955, she married Jerry Mack Phillips in Dallas, beginning a devoted union that lasted nearly 70 years until his passing in May of 2024.
Mary was a woman of deep faith and a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Terrell, Texas. Her commitment to her church community reflected the values she held dear throughout her life.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Mary found great joy and camaraderie through athletic competition. She excelled in tennis, bowling, women's softball, and basketball—earning numerous awards and trophies over the years. Her love for sports was not only a personal pursuit but also a source of connection with others who shared her enthusiasm.
Mary's legacy lives on through her loving family: her son Greg Phillips; her daughter Monica Kinsey; grandchildren Kristin, Hunter, Tyler, and Nina; and great-grandchildren Jaxson and Emma. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerry Phillips; her parents Delmer and Elizabeth Hunter; her son Rusty Phillips; granddaughter Kaz Phillips; brother Jack Hunter; and sister Peggy Hunter Guy.
Mary Rose Phillips will be remembered for the strength of her spirit, the warmth of her presence, and the enduring bonds she nurtured with those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
