Merlin Edwin Westbrook, 88, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, in Terrell, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Merlin lived a life marked by service, dedication, and quiet strength.

Born on April 20, 1937, in Quemado, Texas, Merlin was the son of Dean and Viola Westbrook. He graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1955 and went on to attend Abilene Christian University. His studies were interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army on August 9, 1962. Merlin served his country with honor until February 7, 1966. Following active duty, he continued his commitment to national service as a member of the Army National Guard of Texas until his honorable discharge in June 1976.

After his military service, Merlin built a successful career as an Engineering Technician at Texas Instruments, where he worked for over two decades. His technical skill and problem-solving abilities were well respected by colleagues throughout his tenure.

Merlin married Frances Jean Lamar, with whom he shared a long and loving marriage. Together they raised two daughters: Jeanie Owens (Chuck); and Patti Grounds (Tim). His family was the center of his world. He took great pride in his grandchildren—Ethan Owens; Nathan Grounds; Hannah Seale; Sarah Skelton; Caleb Grounds; and Izzi Grounds—and found immense joy in watching them grow into adulthood. He was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren who brought him continued happiness in his later years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Vernon Westbrook; sisters Faye Westbrook and Marie Fagala; and two beloved grandchildren, Emily Owens and Meagan Smith.

Merlin had a passion for fixing things—whether it was a household appliance or a mechanical puzzle—and found satisfaction in making things work again. He cherished family vacations that created lasting memories across generations. A man of faith, Merlin was an active member of the Wills Point Church of Christ where he found spiritual fulfillment and community.

Those who knew Merlin remember him as loving, generous, and intelligent—a man who gave freely of himself to those around him without seeking recognition.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Wills Point Church of Christ 302 Corky Boyd Ave. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM before service.  The burial will be at White Rose Cemetery following the services.
