Graveside service for Michael James Svoboda, 72, of Emory, formerly of Houston, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston with Lee Maxcy officiating. Services are under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
He went to Heaven to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 5, 2019.
Michael was born September 28, 1946, in Shiner, Texas, the son of Alfons August Svoboda and Wilma Agnes Drabek Svoboda. He was raised in Houston and graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School in 1965. On June 1, 1985, he married the love of his life and best friend, Janet Lee Olson in Houston. He later graduated from Alvin Junior College in 1987 and the University of Houston in 1991. He was formerly employed by the Houston P.D., retiring in 1989 and Spring Branch I.S.D., retiring in 2009. Michael and Janet lived most of their married life in Houston and they retired to Emory in November 2014 to ranch in the country. In his spare time, he enjoyed ranching and taking care of his animals. Michael was a member of the Houston Police Patrolman's Union and Second Baptist Church of Houston.
Preceded in death by his parents, Alfons and Wilma Svoboda; brother, Kenneth Wayne Svoboda; granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Svoboda; father-in-law, Sam L. Olson and a brother-in-law, Clinton Lee Taylor.
Michael is survived by his wife, Janet Olson Svoboda, of Emory; two sons, Ronald Michael Svoboda & wife, Catherine, of Houston and Brian Keith Svoboda & wife, Julie, of Yokosuka, Kanagawa Japan; two daughters, Samantha Olson Krell & husband, Steve, of Quitman and Mariah Svoboda Wiseman & husband, Charles, of Katy; sister, Mary Ann Svoboda Taylor, of Shiner; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Olson Parker & husband, Kelley, of Houston and Candace Svoboda, of Sacramento, California; brother-in-law, Bill Lewis Olson, of Houston; nine grandchildren and mother-in-law, Norma Lee Terrill Olson, of Houston.
Memorials may be made to the Houston P.D., Wounded Warriors Association or Lewy Body Dementia Foundation.
