Monty R Griffin, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in Terrell, Texas. Born on March 24, 1937, in Talty, Texas, his 89 years were marked by hard work, humor, and devotion to family.

Raised in Forney, Monty was shaped by his parents, John Griffin Sr. and Hattie Sue Griffin, and siblings Johnny Griffin Jr., Carl Dean Griffin, and Jacqueline Ann Luttrull, all of whom preceded him in death. He also endured the loss of his sons, Kenneth Griffin and Carl Wayne Griffin, yet remained resilient and loving.

He is survived by his ex-wife Ann Griffin; son John Griffin and wife, Tricia; grandchildren Kimberly Smith (Phillip), Cassie Hollenshead, Matt Griffin (Jennifer), Katie Strutton (Mark), Chelsey Foster, Cassidy Foster, and David Dulude (Carli); and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren who will remember their Papaw’s love, including the gum he always carried for them.

Monty was a man of action and integrity. In his early adulthood he worked at Texas Power and Light in Terrell, Texas. Soon after he opened and operated feed stores in both Terrell and Forney, Texas. He also built a career as an owner-operator, truck driver and cattle hauler. He wore many hats and served as a reserve deputy, law enforcement officer, and Kaufman County Constable. Fellow truck drivers knew him as “silver spur,” a fitting name for his steady, adventurous spirit.

Monty was always working, finding purpose in labor, cattle hauling, and the open road. His wit and humor endeared him to many; when asked how his day was, he often replied, “I’m old and Grumpy,” though his warmth was always close beneath the surface.

His gentle nature showed in his love for his dogs, Molly, Sandy, and Jr., loyal companions who traveled with him along Texas roads and remained close to his heart.

Above all, Monty was a family man whose love, wisdom, humor, and stories shaped generations. He taught others to work hard, laugh often, and love deeply, and he will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held to honor Monty’s life on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10 am at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home located at 205 Corky Boyd Ave. Wills Point, Texas.

As we say goodbye to Monty R Griffin, we hold close his memory and the legacy of strength, humor, and love he leaves behind.
