Nelson Ewing Hay, a devoted family man and skilled metal fabricator, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, in Wills Point, Texas. Born on October 10, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, Nelson dedicated over 40 years of his life to the craft of metal fabrication, earning a reputation for his expertise and work ethic. He was a man known for his strength, toughness, and above all, his deep love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nelson was affectionately known by many as "Pape" and the "Peanut Butter Man," nicknames that spoke to the warmth and joy he brought to those around him. He attended Wills Point High School, a testament to his determination and commitment to personal growth.
Among his proudest accomplishments were being a devoted father and grandfather—a role he cherished and embraced with all his heart. Those who knew Nelson remember him fondly as "a cracker jack," a phrase that captures his spirited and earnest approach to life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hay; his son, Timothy Hay; and his daughters, Inge Gilliam, Christy Sides, and Crystal Roper. Nelson’s family also includes eight cherished grandchildren—Riley Gwynn Hay, Reagan Hay, Shelby Myers, Dayton Ellis, Dustin Gibbons, Kyle Krietemeyer, Ricky Krietemeyer, and Serjio Krietemeyer—and three beloved great-grandchildren. His extended family includes his niece, Jana Hay Grant, and nephews Clarence "Skipper" Hay and Gary Sprague, all of whom hold dear memories of his presence in their lives.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ruby Hay, and his siblings, Marvin Hay, Virginia Sprague, and Wanda Lee.
A graveside service honoring Nelson’s life will take place on March 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Ellis Chapel Cemetery, located at 298 VZ County Road 3513, in Wills Point, Texas.
Nelson Ewing Hay’s legacy of strength, diligence, and unwavering love will continue to inspire his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
