Obituary

Nettie "Sue" Ross, a cherished soul known for her boundless energy and loving spirit, passed away on April 5, 2026, in Canton, Texas. Born on April 10, 1934, in Wills Point, Texas, Sue's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with dedication, compassion, and an unwavering zest for living.

Sue proudly graduated from Wills Point High School with the Class of 1952, laying the foundation for a life deeply rooted in her community. Her career journey mirrored her dynamic personality, as she worked at many places, including the State Fair of Texas in the ticket booth, Southwestern Bell, and devoted over 30 years to the City of Mesquite. Throughout her working years, she was known for her reliability and warm presence, qualities that endeared her to colleagues and acquaintances alike.

A woman of many interests, Sue had a passionate love for her yard and flower gardening, particularly hydrangeas. Even in her later years, she could be found tending her St. Augustine grass with care, a testament to her “always on the go” spirit. Nettie was also a collector at heart, enchanting those around her with her beautiful array of decorative chickens, dishes, glassware, and costume jewelry. Her joy in life included the rhythms of polka and square dancing, where her lively nature truly shone.

Known affectionately as a “busy body” who never met a stranger, Sue's compassionate heart extended beyond her family and friends. She was a nursing home favorite, bringing smiles and comfort to many, and generously volunteered her time at the American Red Cross—an accomplishment she held with pride.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William Alex Buckley and Independence Sockwell Buckley; her sister Louise Richardson; and her brothers William "Bill" Buckley and Jim Buckley. She leaves behind a loving sister, Marry Goggans, and a wide circle of family and friends who will carry her memory dearly in their hearts. Her nephews Chester Richardson (Colleen), Rusty Goggans, Brad Goggans (Maria), and William Brown (Emma), along with nieces Vicki Buckley, Marsha Elms (Tim), Suzie Cline, and Kari Samborski (David), mourn her loss alongside many great-nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law Betsy Buckley. Cherished friends Sandy Norrell, Diana Norrell, and Sherri Martin stand as a testament to the enduring bonds she formed.

A visitation will take place on April 21, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point, Texas, located at 205 Corky Boyd Ave, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. This somber gathering offers a moment for all who loved Sue to celebrate her remarkable life—a life filled with love, kindness, and an unyielding spirit.

Her legacy lives on in the hearts she touched, the garden she nurtured, and the joyful dances she embraced. Nettie Sue Ross was a light in this world, and her memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.
