Obituary

Peggy Jean "Jean" Livesay, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. A devoted Christian woman known for her strength, grace, and unwavering faith, Jean leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and service.

Born on August 12, 1937, in Quinlan, Texas, to General Lee Wood and Annie Joines, Jean was raised with strong values that would guide her throughout her life. She attended Elmo Schools and later married the love of her life, Billy "Bill" R. Livesay, on January 9, 1953, in Elmo, Texas. They were married for 49 years before his passing in 2002. Together, they built a life rooted in faith and family.

Jean served for many years at Terrell State Hospital as a switchboard operator and receptionist, retiring in 2015. Known for her industrious spirit, she often kept herself busy even during quiet moments at work—ironing or finding other ways to stay productive. Her work ethic was matched only by her warmth and kindness.

A founding member of Wills Point International Outreach Church in 1983, Jean remained an active member throughout her life. Her deep faith was evident in all she did—from the way she treated others to the countless hours she spent cooking dinners for the Rotary Club alongside her dear friend Frances Huff.

Jean had a passion for life's simple pleasures. She loved working in her yard; she cherished that time so deeply. Sewing and quilting brought her joy and allowed her to share pieces of herself with those around her. She found peace in bird watching and delight in reading a good book. But above all else, Jean treasured time spent with family and friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Melissa Lindsey and Angela Livesay and Elaine Copeland; daughter-in-law Gaye Livesay; grandchildren Jessica Dye, Scott Cannon and wife Deann, Erica Kinsella and husband Andy, and Jennifer Stone and husband Jeff; great-grandchildren Austin Cannon, Ava Kinsella, Eve Kinsella, Ethan Cannon, Tristan Livesay, Darrell Stone and Juniper Stone; and dear friends Frances Huff and Wanda Robertson.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Livesay; her parents, General Lee Wood and Annie Joines; her son, Dwight Livesay; her grandson, Blane Livesay; and eight older siblings.

A woman of strength and elegance—feisty yet graceful—Jean embodied what it meant to be a true lady. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

May Peggy Jean Livesay's memory continue to bring comfort to those who loved her and inspiration to all who were touched by her life.
