Ramelle Sewell

Ramelle Sewell (Johnson), a loving and steadfast presence to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, in Wills Point, Texas. Born December 14, 1938, in Booneville, Mississippi, Ramelle’s journey spanned nearly nine decades, each year marked by her compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.

From her earliest years, Ramelle distinguished herself as a driven and loving woman, characteristics that carried her through every chapter of her life. Following her graduation from Luxora High School in Luxora, Arkansas, in 1957, she set her sights on earning a college education. With the support of her family, she moved in with her aunt and uncle, Lloyd and Zera Johnson, and her cousin, Ronnie, to attend Northeast Mississippi Junior College. Every morning, she and Ronnie rode the local school bus together—Ronnie on his way to first grade and she on her way to college—an early testament to her determination and commitment to her education. One of her proudest achievements was earning her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University. For Ramelle, obtaining her degree represented far more than academic accomplishment. It was the realization of a dream rooted deeply in a childhood where resources were often scarce but hope and perseverance were ever-present. That spirit of determination became a touchstone for those around her.

After graduating from college, Ramelle's life blossomed in many meaningful ways. On August 21, 1962, she married the love of her life, Ray W. Sewell, and together they shared 37 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on April 24, 1999. Before dedicating herself to raising their family, Ramelle enjoyed a career as a schoolteacher. She had a gift for inspiring young minds, and her kindness, wisdom, and encouragement left a lasting impact on the countless students whose lives she touched.

In August 1974, Ramelle and her beloved husband, Ray, opened the first State Farm agency in Wills Point, marking the beginning of a business built on integrity, hard work, and a genuine commitment to serving their community.

After moving to Wills Point, she served at First Baptist Church of Edgewood and Wills Point. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life, shaping her values, guiding her decisions, and serving as the foundation upon which she raised her children. She lived out her faith each day with kindness, compassion, and unwavering trust in the Lord. Whether through her words, her actions, or the quiet example she set, she shared the love of Christ not only with her family but with everyone she had the privilege of meeting. Her steadfast faith leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Through joys and sorrows, Ramelle’s heart beat strongest for her family. She was the devoted wife of Ray Winston Sewell until his passing. Together they shared a family whose love she nurtured into every generation. Ramelle is survived by her son Dub Sewell and his wife Brianna, daughters Ann Daniell and her husband DD, daughter Robin Blackwell and her husband Stephen, and the memory of her cherished son Zach Sewell.

Her deep pride in her grandchildren was known to all—Logan Daniell and wife Brianna, Chase Daniell and wife Erin, Jacob Daniell, Sawyer Sewell, Emily Sewell, Molly Sewell, Landry Sewell, Dodge Blackwell, and Truett Blackwell—and her love extended further to her great-grandchildren, Preslee and Josephine. Ramelle’s caring heart surrounded all of them, most clearly seen at every event and milestone. At every event, cheering them on, her presence was an unspoken promise that no achievement would go unnoticed, no triumph too small to celebrate.

She is also survived by her loving sisters-in-law, Carolyn, Glenda, and Deanne Johnson, whose bonds provided support and companionship throughout the years. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Ramelle was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray W. Sewell; their loving son Zach Sewell and precious infant daughter, RaMei Vann Sewell, who was born into Heaven on May 24, 1968; her parents, Sidney and Daisy Johnson; her brothers, Darrell Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Dudley Johnson, and Jack Johnson; her brothers-in-law, Bob Sewell and Bill Stowers; her sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson, Jeannie Sewell Stowers, and Jackie Sewell; and her cherished great-niece, Tara Ashley Starks.

Cherished memories echo through her family—the way she would take her children and grandchildren to the White Rose Cemetery to teach them to drive, offering wisdom and gentle laughter as they navigated the winding paths. There, she would pause to place flowers on the graves of special souls, teaching those she loved the importance of remembrance and kindness.

Ramelle’s love shone brightest in small, heartfelt gestures and in the enduring legacy of care and determination she instilled in those who survived her. Her life, marked by service, love, and resilience, will continue to inspire and uplift all who had the joy of knowing her.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, August 2, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home, 205 Corky Boyd Ave., Wills Point, Texas. A funeral service celebrating Ramelle’s life will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Wills Point, located at 125 E. James Street, Wills Point, Texas.
