Obituary

Reymundo Hermenejildo Ybarra, 71, passed away on November 19, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Reymundo lived a life marked by service, faith, and a deep love for the outdoors. Affectionately known to his family and friends as "Rey"

Born on January 27, 1954, in Harlingen, Texas, Rey was raised in the Rio Grande Valley alongside his siblings. He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1972 and soon after answered the call to serve his country. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served honorably from June 1972 through June 1976. Rey was stationed in Japan as a trombonist in the Marine Corp.

Following his military service, Rey pursued higher education and earned an associate degree from Texas State Technical College. He was employed right out of college with Shell Oil Co. for 13 plus years. After moving to the North Texas area, His professional career spanned more than two decades with Cingular Wireless and AT&T in Plano. He retired in 2024 after over 20 years of dedicated work.

On March 16, 1974, Rey married Maricela Vasquez. Together, they built a loving home and raised two daughters: Naomy Ybarra and Priscilla Buffington. Rey was known as the "good cop" with his daughters—loving, generous, kind-hearted, funny, patient, and always ready with a smile or a story. His family grew to include son-in-law Drew Buffington and two cherished granddaughters: Noelle Urdiales and Juniper Buffington.

In 1999, Rey and Maricela moved to Wills Point, Texas. There he embraced rural life with enthusiasm—cutting firewood, landscaping their property by hand with care and creativity, gardening with a passion for collecting seeds for all types of plants, grilling for family gatherings, fishing when time allowed, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Music of all genres filled his days; it was not uncommon to find him watching DCI Marching videos and on the hunt for new music

Rey's faith was central to his life. For over 24 years he was an active member of International Outreach Church where he found community and spiritual fulfillment. His presence there—as in every part of his life—was marked by warmth and friendliness that drew others close.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over fifty years, Maricela Vasquez Ybarra; daughters Naomy Ybarra and Priscilla Buffington (and her husband Drew); granddaughters Noelle Urdiales and Juniper Buffington; brothers Rolando Ybarra and Orlando Ybarra; sisters Diana Berumen and Daisy Ramirez; along with many extended family members and friends who were touched by his kindness.

Rey was preceded in death by his parents Reymundo A. Ybarra and Volivia Cavallero Ybarra; and his brother Renee Ybarra.

A man of quiet strength and enduring generosity, Rey leaves behind a legacy rooted in love for family, devotion to faith, pride in service to country—and joy found in simple pleasures under open skies.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
