Funeral services for Richard Myron Tanner, 52, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Mr. Steven Newberry officiating.
He passed away Friday afternoon, April 14, 2017, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born February 3, 1965, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Glen Tanner and Linda Marie Giggey Tanner. He was raised in California and Utah. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army and was in the Army National Guard for over thirty-five years. In September 2005, he moved to Wills Point. On November 5, 2005, he married Karen MacWilliams in Dallas. Richard enjoyed shooting high powered rifles in his spare time. He was a lifetime member of the N.R.A., T.S.R.A. and the V.F.W. Some of Richard's major accomplishments include, Distinguished Rifle and Pistol, Presidents' 100 at the National Matches, National Guard Chief's 50 and National Guard Wilson Combat Match Governor's 20 (4 times for Rifle, Pistol, Light Machine Gun, and Sniper Rifle).
Preceded in death by his father, Glen Tanner and step-father, Paul Hampton.
Richard is survived by his wife, Karen Tanner, of Wills Point; son, Richard Shane Tanner, of Wills Point; mother, Lacey Tanner, of Wills Point; sister, Angela Riley, of Lawton, Oklahoma and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Tanner, of Enid, Oklahoma.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
