Private memorial service for Rickey Gene Smith, 60, of Payne Springs, will be held at a later date.
He passed away Saturday morning, January 23, 2016, at East Texas Medical Center in Athens.
Rickey was born November 15, 1955, in Dallas, Texas, the son of J. W. Smith and Wanda Lee Withers Smith. He was raised in the Dallas area and graduated from Carter High School in Dallas. On June 9, 1989, he married Linda Diane Gilmore in Kaufman County. Rickey was employed as a diesel mechanic for Tidy in Garland and was later employed by East Texas Truss in Gun Barrel City. He moved from the Cedar Creek area to Payne Springs one year ago. Rickey was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Lee Smith in 2004.
Rickey is survived by his wife, Linda Smith, of Payne Springs; father, J. W. Smith, of Red Oak; two daughters, Brandi Braune, of Payne Springs and Ashley Smith, of Payne Springs; two brothers, Jack Smith, of Red Oak and Jimmy Smith, of Red Oak and sister, Mary White, of Kansas City Missouri.
