Funeral services for Robert Wayne Owens, 74, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Pastor Travis Norrell officiating. Interment will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery north of Wills Point.
He passed away early Tuesday morning, December 12, 2017, in Tyler.
Robert was born November 7, 1943, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the son of Robert Owens and Helen Jester. He was raised in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from East High School in Wichita in 1961. Robert moved from Wichita to Wills Point twenty-four years ago. He owned and operated the Edgewood Diner for several years, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed playing bingo every Thursday at the Senior Citizens building in Edgewood and taking care of his dogs, Scooter and Big Boy. Robert was a member of the Lions Club, Heritage Society both in Edgewood and Hayden Baptist Church south of Wills Point.
Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Owens, Helen & George Jester and four step-sisters.
Robert is survived by his son, Eric Owens, of Orange; three sisters, Joyce Garrett, of Edgewood, Regina Kay, of California and Sabinna Kiley, of Oklahoma; two nieces, Brenda Gravitt, of Bastrop and Becky Holland, of Canton; nephew, Frank Garrett, of Dallas; two great-nieces, Melissa Bullara, of Elgin and Felisha Maldonado, of Bastrop; two great-nephews, Jasper Carista, of Edgewood and Tim Carista, of Jacksonville, Florida; ten great-great nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to funeral service.
