Roger Bentley Rice, 78, passed away on July 9, 2024, in Tyler, Texas. Born on June 1, 1946, in Corsicana, Texas, Roger lived a life marked by devotion to his family and service to his country.
From 1966 to 1969, Roger served in the Air Force, dedicating himself as a jet engine mechanic. His military tenure instilled in him a profound sense of discipline and excellence that he carried into his civilian career. After his service, Roger continued to work as a mechanic before taking on roles as the head of maintenance at Varo in Dallas and later as a maintenance supervisor at Wills Point Independent School District until his retirement in 2008.
Roger's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was a lifelong supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, an avid reader, and had a knack for fixing gadgets. His artistic side was expressed through painting and playing music, skills that brought joy not only to him but to those around him. When his girls were young, Roger was a valued member of the Wills Point Youth Sports Association. He regularly attended VFW functions, showing his enduring commitment to community and fellow veterans.
He is survived by his loving wife, Denise Jackson Rice; daughters, Lorri "Mandy" Rice Vaughn (Steve), Misty Michelle Rice Thomas (Matt), Brandy Michelle Jackson, Nacole Rae Jackson; brother, Curtis Rice; and sisters, Linda Armstrong (Billy) and Sarah Smith (Ed). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Summer Lynn Rice, Jordin Mosley, Nikki Jones, Matthew Jackson, Angelina Hernandez (Chris), Allyssa Jackson, Branden Hernandez, Cameron Robinson, Coral Fautley, Landon Fautley; and great-grandchildren, Eric Bentley Morgan "Lil B", Audreanna Jackson, Josiah Jackson, Kingsley Jackson, Caspian Williams "Budda Baby". Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Katie Rice; siblings, Maudell Templin, Mary Ann Lawson, Betsy Lyde, Carol Sue Bullock, Dant Rice, Joe Rice; and grandson, Nicholas Adrian Jackson.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. and will be held at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home located at 205 Corky Boyd Ave., in Wills Point, Texas.
Roger's life was one of giving, love, and service, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
