Roy Gene Hawkins, aged 90, passed away on June 23, 2026, in Greenville, Texas. Born on December 18, 1935, in Commerce, Texas, he was the son of Roy L Hawkins and Frances Sparks Hawkins.
Roy dedicated many years to the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1992. He was a devout member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church, where he actively participated in various church activities. His commitment to his faith was evident in his involvement with Builders for Jesus, a group he cherished for its mission and community impact.
Roy earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from East Texas A&M University. His passion for building and crafting extended into his retirement, frequently attending craft shows and constructing meaningful projects. He also enjoyed traveling with the Senior Group from his church, exploring new places, and making lasting memories.
He is survived by his son, Roy David Hawkins and wife Kay; daughters, Deborah Hawkins Boggs and husband David, and Mary Elizabeth Hawkins; grandchildren, Wade and wife Julie, Tyler and wife Samantha, Rachel and husband Joel, Bethany and husband Ivan, and Andrew and wife Hayden; great-grandchildren, Lily, Sage, Crosby, Colt, Landon, Connor, Heidi, Everett, Addison, Alexander, Oliver, Julia, Macy, Presley, Harper, and Madeline; and brother, James Wollard Hawkins. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Vesta Nealy Hawkins; parents; sister, Ann Babb; and two infant twin brothers.
A family visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M., followed by a memorial service at 11 A.M. Both will take place at Highland Terrace Baptist Church, located at 3939 Joe Ramsey Blvd E, Greenville, TX 75401. A private burial will occur later. Roy’s legacy of faith, family, and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
