Sammy Leon Smith, known affectionately as Sam, passed away on October 24, 2024, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 70. Born on September 9, 1954, in Grand Saline, Texas, Sam was a simple-country man who cherished the comfort of his home and the quiet of nature.

Sam graduated from Edgewood High School and soon pursued his passion for carpentry, becoming self-employed.  Later in his years he worked for Madix in Terrell until his retirement. Sam's love for craftsmanship was paralleled by his enjoyment of the outdoors, gardening, and riding his tractor. He had a special affection for his dogs and spent many happy hours in his shop, where he was very particular about his tools.

Sam is survived by his wife, Cathy Smith; daughters, Cari Smith and Holly McKeown (married to Harry); and sons, Corey Johnson (married to Jennifer) and Corey Smith. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Catherine Williams (married to Brandon), Jake Johnson (married to Jessie), Tyler Cunningham (married to Cody), Harper McKeown, Kamryn Williams, Trey Smith, and Colin Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, Lionel Clyde Smith; mother, Ollie Ruth Smith; and half-brother, Ed Smith.

A private graveside will be held to honor Sam. The family has entrusted arrangements to Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home, located in Wills Point, Texas. Sam's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
