Sheryl Kay Spencer, (Martin), passed away on March 25, 2026, in Kaufman, Texas. Born on December 12, 1961, in Rayville, Louisiana, Sheryl lived a life marked by unwavering dedication, vibrant spirit, and generosity of heart that left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
For over three decades, Sheryl devoted herself to her career as an Assistant Manager at Wal-Mart, where her leadership, commitment, and work ethic were exemplary. Her energetic and outgoing nature, coupled with a kind, funny, and fiercely outspoken personality, made her a valued colleague and friend throughout her many years of service.
Sheryl married Stephen Spencer in 1992, sharing nearly three decades together until his passing in January of 2021. The couple made their home in Terrell, Texas, for over 20 years after previously residing in Myrtle Springs, weaving a life full of love, family, and community.
Passionate about her hobbies and interests, Sheryl was an avid collector of miniature items and marbles, pursuits that reflected her appreciation for the delicate and unique. She found joy and creative expression in sewing, painting, and refurbishing furniture, always breathing new life into the pieces she touched. Gardening and caring for plants were also among her cherished pastimes, nurturing beauty and growth in her surroundings, much like she did in the lives of those around her. Her home was a reflection of her unique personality, adorned with thousands of smiley faces, symbolizing her love for joy and positivity.
Sheryl's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her son, Stephen Sherwood; daughters Terrie Spencer, Stephanie Spencer, and Natasha "Chance" Tawater; and her devoted daughter-in-love, Lisa Lomax. Her spirit shines brightly in her grandchildren -- Kayce, Dylan, Emberlee, Khloe, Hunter, and Kaden -- and extends to her great-grandchild, Liam. Sheryl's warmth and affection were also felt by her loyal canine companions, Sammy, Brucie, and Shadow. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen Spencer; her parents, Horace Martin and Virginia Simon Martin; her brother Rusty Martin; her sister June Nalls; and her canine friends Amos and Kooper
Sheryl Kay Spencer will be remembered for her stubborn yet giving nature, her lively sense of humor, and her generous spirit. She graced the lives of her siblings, Douglas Ashby, Horace "Ace" Martin, Jr., Crystal Williams, and Becky Martin, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous friends and loved ones, with her remarkable presence and affectionate heart.
Her journey, shaped by love, dedication, and creativity, leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories and an enduring influence that will be felt by all fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace, forever treasured in the hearts of those she loved.
